Dudley Do-Right started out as the hapless hero of a segment on The Rocky and Bullwinkle Show. Dudley, a Canadian Mountie, who tried unsuccessfully to catch his nemesis Snidely Whiplash. Dudley also tried unsuccessfully to catch the attentions of Nell Fenwick, the daughter of Inspector Fenwick, the head of the Mountie station.

In 1969 Dudley Do-Right got his own show, The Dudley Do-Right Show. The character of Dudley is rumored to be based somewhat on the writer of the show's neighbor, Dennis Dudley, a Canadian who didn't have much luck with women, and always did what he thought was right.
